Every radical, explained
Each radical comes with its origin, meaning, a curiosity, the number and order of strokes, and the words where it appears, so you understand the building blocks behind each character.
All the official HSK1 content in one app: 90 radicals, 150 words and 150 practice phrases, each one explained in real depth so you start Chinese on the right foot.
Free to start · No account needed · Available in 11 languages
A focused app that gathers all the official HSK1 content in one place: radicals, vocabulary and phrases, each explained in real depth so you get a clear, practical start in Chinese.
Each radical comes with its origin, meaning, a curiosity, the number and order of strokes, and the words where it appears, so you understand the building blocks behind each character.
All 150 official HSK1 words, each with its origin, a curiosity, pinyin, meaning, synonyms and an example sentence so you know how to use it.
A selection of 150 practice phrases across three levels (easy, medium and hard) using HSK1 vocabulary, with a few HSK2 words in the trickiest ones, so you practise grammar.
A pinyin system with a colour for each tone so you can tell them apart, and audio at different speeds for listening practice.
This is the recommended routine the app is built around: keep a notebook beside you and let HSK 1 Lan guide you at every step, for each radical and word you learn.
Open the character in the app and read its origin and the curiosity calmly. Then try to tie the origin and the curiosity to the shape of the character, or build a little story that helps you connect them.
Tap the button to see the stroke order, and the audio button to hear how it's pronounced. Then write it while you repeat the sound out loud.
Next to the character, write the pinyin (its phonetic transcription), putting special emphasis on the tone, because learning the tone from the start makes it much easier to communicate out loud later on.
Write the translation next to the pinyin, so the character, its sound and its meaning all sit together on the same line.
Underneath, build a sentence using this word. It's a good idea to also reuse words you've already learned, to practise combining them and so you don't forget them.
Whenever you want to check what you really remember, come back and review in the app. That is where everything stays fresh.
The app is free and includes a limited selection of radicals, vocabulary and phrases so you can try it. If you want access to all the content and the extra features, choose one of these options.
