明 (bright, tomorrow) + 天 (day). The bright day to come is 'tomorrow'. 明 also appears in 明白 (to understand, literally 'white and bright').
For 'next year' you say 明年. 'Next week' is 下星期. 明天见 is a very common goodbye: 'see you tomorrow'.
