Radical 灬 (fire) + 执 (to grasp). Grasping fire brings heat. The right-hand part is phonetic.
The opposite of 冷 (cold). In summer people say '热死了' (dying of heat). Many Chinese homes have no central heating, so in winter the 空调 (air conditioner) is also used for warmth.
