Radical 阝 (city) + 冄 (gradually). It could originally mean 'that far-off place'. Today it's the demonstrative for distance.
The opposite of 这 (this). In conversation people point and say '那个' (nàge) when they can't recall a name. They sometimes use '那个...那个...' as a filler, like 'um... um...'.
