One line above another: what is on top.
The opposite of 下 (down). It's also the verb 'to get on' (上车 = to board a vehicle). In locations, '上' marks 'on' or 'onto' (桌子上 = on the table).
书在桌子上。
Shū zài zhuōzi shàng.
The book is on the table.
